Ms. Kelly

Another average album from Ms. Kelly,

After a while, Destiny's Child sort of became an on-again-off-again group, with solo albums from the members released here and there. Now that the group has amicably called it quits, Kelly Rowland gave us the follow-up to Simply Deep, Ms. Kelly. While this album is better than Beyoncé's sophomore album, there still really isn't much to talk about.

It's not that Kelly can't sing; it's the WAY she sings. She still sounds exactly like Beyoncé most of the time (except for on the aptly titled "Ghetto", where she kind of sounds like LeToya), but the real problem is that the album is pretty okay all the way through. One of the only tracks that really stands out is the very last one, "This Is Love". "Still In Love With My Ex" is pretty good too, but the interlude that precedes it is unnecessary not because it's bad, but because it's basically the entire first verse of the song (albeit at a different tempo).

The repetitive chorus in "Better Without You" makes the song rather mundane, and even a good Scott Storch beat can't make "Comeback" more than a filler track. But guest stars don't fare much better, like Eve on "Like This", Tank on the corny "The Show", or Snoop on the aforementioned "Ghetto". Ms. Kelly isn't garbage, but it isn't anything special either, so if you don't pick it up, you won't miss much.
